According to ESPN, Barcelona are interested in raiding La Liga 2 club Las Palmas for the signing of 18-year-old starlet Alberto Moleiro and have held negotiations with the lower league outfit over a possible move. Moleiro moved to the Las Palmas youth setup in 2018 from the Sobradilla youth academy. Having joined the club, the young attacking midfielder, who is adept at playing as a No. 10 or out on the flanks, has already established himself as a first-team regular despite being just 18 years of age.
Moleiro featured 38 times across all competitions in the 2021/22 campaign, scoring three goals and setting up one more, almost helping Las Palmas win promotion to La Liga, with the club falling at the playoff stages against Tenerife.
Moleiro’s potential and talent has now caught the eye of Barcelona, who are interested in signing the Spanish prodigy in the summer. The last time the Catalans raided Las Palmas, they uncovered a gem in Pedri, who has become one of the best young midfielders across Europe and is a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Blaugrana.
Barcelona are now seemingly hoping to repeat the trick with the signing of Moleiro as well. The Catalan behemoths have enjoyed tremendous success by putting their faith in youth in recent seasons. Ansu Fati, Gavi, Nico Gonzalez, Ronald Araujo and the aforementioned Pedri have all become vital players at the first-team level. And Barcelona wish to continue the trend, having already secured talented youth prospects such as Pablo Torre, Emre Demir and Nil Ruiz, among others, heading into the summer window.
Moleiro is another such player that Barcelona want to recruit this summer, with the Catalan outfit even holding talks with Las Palmas to explore the possibility of a transfer. As per the report, Barça would sign the 18-year-old this summer and loan him back to Las Palmas for a year, much like they had done with Pedri, before integrating the youngster into their team in 2023.
